The Second Resurrection

by: Wayne Schatzle

           To Christians, as an article of Faith, they believe that to be saved it is mandatory to be a believer in Jesus Christ. Scripture is clear that Jesus is the Door and any way other than through Him a person is characterized as a thief!  Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life and NO man comes to the Father except through Him {Jn 14/ Jn 10}. This belief is essential dogma to believers but raises questions when thinking deeply about it.

            Shockingly, most of the world are not believers of Jesus Christ and never have been. What about the millions of children that have perished? Some say that if they have not reached the age of reason they are automatically saved {which would be a good argument for abortion}. In the bible we see whole nations being wiped out merely for being in Israel’s way. In addition to all these people, add those that God deliberately blinded to the knowledge of salvation. In fact the very reason Jesus spoke in parables was to cloak the meaning to most of His audience that they would NOT find salvation! {Rm 11:7; Isa 29:10& 6:9; Mt 13:11}

We do know that God is fair and not a respecter of persons and He is not willing that ANY should perish but have eternal Life. Believe it or not there is a simple Biblical answer to this dilemma. It is not taught nor understood among most churches yet it is an integral part of God’s perfect plan of salvation. The truth is: God is NOT trying to save the world now! When he does He will with a powerful message without interference from Satan.

            Everyone seems to understand the First resurrection. Jesus called it the better resurrection and urges everyone to strive for it. It is graphically depicted in first Corinthians 15 and first Thessalonians 4. Most of us have seen bumper stickers mentioning the Rapture and the driver being changed to spirit. Revelation 20 gives a thumbnail sketch of the order of resurrections and some of the events surrounding them. Of the several mentions of resurrections in the Bible, a critical difference is that persons will be describe as either being changed to Spirit or regenerated back to flesh. Ezekiel 37 is quite graphic giving the account of bones and flesh coming together.  In that same chapter we see those physical men and women getting a second life to learn God’s way. Some churches will say the second resurrection is for punishment but scripture shows them being raised {after Satan is bound} and learning without deception. Those in this second resurrection are raised at the end of the thousand-year reign of God on this earth and only then will they have a chance to make the decision to be a child of God or suffer the fate of those who choose Satan’s way and have their place in the lake of fire.

Let’s look back at that first resurrection which occurs when Jesus returns. This is a time after the tribulation has happened. Scripture hints that only 10% of mankind survives {Isa 6/ Isa 24:6/ Jer 30}. With this small number of people and those of the first resurrection that were changed to Spirit beings, the task will begin to restore the Earth to the beauty it was after creation with the focus on that second resurrection, or as the Bible calls it- the Great White Throne judgment.  Some of my favorite scriptures concern this 1000 years of peace and safety living under God’s righteous rule, a time when evil men are dealt with, children can play and not worry about harmful things. The idea beating swords into plowshares is a dream of the United Nations and it will come about only by the strength of Jesus Christ upon His return. {Isa 11/ Micah 4/ Jer 31:31-34}

This no doubt sounds like fiction and many will not believe it because their church teaches otherwise. I urge people to study this doctrine, not just for the information about the future, but you will see we have a loving God who loves all men and wants every single person to have a chance for salvation.                                            8/02
